You wouldn’t buy a house without a survey, so why buy a franchise without properly investigating whether it is a good franchise and the right franchise for you?
Becoming a franchise owner  is a big financial and emotional step to take, so it’s crucial that you choose a good franchise.
Entering into a franchise is a commercial transaction - unlike buying insurance or double glazing or even a car, there is no cooling off period, no ‘money back guarantee’, so you need to be very clear what you are getting into before you buy.
For Replico, a good franchise is a sound business proposition that Is built on great customer service, effectively delivered.   Good franchises are often started by people who are passionate about what they do.   They really care about how their service is delivered and so they really care about who they take on to run part of their business, and they care about supporting those people appropriately.
The best franchises make sure that the people who run their franchises are fully committed to their values, able to deliver the promise and fully supported in doing so.    The best franchises are very clear about the kind of person they want and will turn people away if the business is not right for the person.
So it follows that if you want to find your best franchise - the right franchise for you, you should start by looking at yourself.   Your strengths, your values, your passions.  This is hard, so we offer a Working Style Profile, to help you, but you might also get help from a friend or mentor, a personal coach, or even from a psychometric testing organisation.
Be aware that the outcome might be that you should not go into franchising at all - it may be that you would be far happier in new career or starting your own business. But surely it’s better to find this out before you’ve spent thousands on a franchise, or worse wasted months of your life doing something you hate?
Once you’ve understood what you are about, then and only then should you go shopping for the right franchise opportunity.   You are looking for a franchise business that plays to your strengths, fits with your values and satisfies your need to make a difference.   You also want  one which is a sound business proposition that has been properly and fairly packaged into a franchise that is likely to succeed.    Our Franchise Due Diligence Questionnaire helps you carry out these checks consistently on every franchise you look at.
It’s only when both these things are in place - a sound franchise proposition that matches your personal working style that you will be fully able to deliver the things that matter to you as well as the business success that you and the franchisor are both looking for.
We want you to choose wisely, so here are some tools to help you:

This book will help you think about why you want to buy a franchise and what to look for in any franchise you consider.   Read it at the start of your search for a suitable franchise.

We wrote this booklet as a direct result of hearing from franchisees who’d realised too late that what they had bought was not right for them, but couldn’t get out without losing money.   Make sure you are not one of them.

“Franchise Due Diligence Questionnaire”

In the world of franchising the rule is ‘Buyer Beware’ - it’s up to you to carry out your own due diligence before you enter into any commercial agreement.

This questionnaire  helps you do a thorough job of your due diligence.   It gives you all the questions you need to objectively assess and compare different franchise opportunities so you know exactly what’s on offer, well before you sign any agreement.

“What to look for in a Franchise Agreement”

Of course you should always get your own solicitor to check over the Franchise Agreement before you sign it.

But before you incur that expense, you can use this guide to check through an Agreement for obvious omissions, lopsided obligations and unfairly restricting clauses, that may make you re-consider your purchase.

One final tip - make sure you choose a solicitor with experience in franchising, otherwise you’ll be paying for them to learn.
